Why give?

  • You help the parents get emotional support in the midst of their child’s diagnosis and treatment, when the hospital does not offer support to family members.

  • You help the child with cancer have continuity of care by being established with a therapist they can come back to throughout their life.

  • You help the siblings have a safe place to process their experience as a Super-Sib without feeling like they are burdening their parents emotionally or mentally.

  • Most therapist who specialize in working with children do not take insurance and are private pay only. Your donation helps the children gain access to quality therapists.

  • The average therapist cost $150-$200 in the DFW area. 26 therapy sessions (6 months) can cost up to $5,200 per participant! But the gift of healing is invaluable!

  • Months and years of horrendous cancer treatment creates chronic stress which can lead to PTSD. Healing takes time and a safe space to feel. Hope for healing is a gift.

 FAQs

  • As an organization, we provide 26 weeks, which is 6 months of therapy. Most trauma takes time to heal, especially with ongoing traumatic stress. Participants have up to 6 months, but if they and their therapist feel ready to graduate from therapy, the remaining sessions get allocated to another participant, and the participant can apply when they need to return to therapy at another time.

  • The hospital provides therapy for the child who is in treatment only. The parents and the siblings do not have the option to be seen by a therapist through the children’s hospital. Even when they seek therapy in the hospital for the child with cancer, the cost for the therapist charged at the hospital rate + facility charge. A community therapist can be cost efficient and allows for continuity of care after treatment is over.
